McCain switches to Dems

A political earthquake is shaking the capital after John McCain formally announced his switch to the Democratic party. In a short press release issued today the Arizona senator states that “I have come to this important decision after my efforts to reach a political consensus within my party have repeatedly failed. At the same time I feel that many issues that have characterized my entire political career are also reflected by the moderate wing in the Democratic party. I wish to express my deepest gratitude to the Republican leaders who have been offering their unconditional support throughout these events.”

The Democratic party has not officially confirmed McCain’s crossing of the aisle. Updates will follow.
