Altrettanto esiziali delle dichiarazioni di Deena Burnett, o forse più, in quanto riportano un particolare assai specifico e verificabile, inserito nel cuore stesso degli eventi, sono le dichiarazioni di Lyz Glick.
La quale sostiene di aver visto la prima torre cadere mentre stava parlando al telefono con il marito.
LYZ GLICK: He began to ask me, 'Are they crashing planes into the World Trade Center?' I guess one of the other passengers had spoken to his mother, I believe it might have been, and that message might have been relayed. So he asked that. And then I am watching on the big screen television in front of me the World Trade Centers collapsing. (ABC, 09/18/01)
Sull’orario del crollo della prima torre non ci sono dubbi: 9:59.
Alle 9:59, secondo le registrazioni del Cockpit Voice Recorder, si stava svolgendo una battaglia furiosa.
09:58:57 _ (They want to get in here. Hold, hold from the inside. Hold from the inside. Hold).
09:59:04 _ Hold the door.
09:59:09 _ Stop him.
09:59:11 _ Sit down.
La contraddizione è evidente.
La Glick fornisce questa sua versione anche nel libro di Jere Longman già citato (Among the Heroes: United Flight 93 and the Passengers and Crew Who Fought Back): «One of the towers had just fallen». (p. 207).
Sono, dunque, le 9:59.
La telefonata prosegue, e solo più tardi, nel corso della conversazione, Jeremy Glick accenna al fatto che si sta parlando di tentare l’assalto, e di mettere ai voti la proposta.
He said that they were taking a vote. There were three other guys as big as him. Was that a good idea? What should they do? (p. 216)
Dunque si mette ai voti la proposta di lanciare un assalto che, secondo le registrazioni del CVR, era già stato lanciato.
Su questo episodio la Glick fu interrogata dall’Fbi una prima volta il 12 settembre 2001.
Ma ha mantenuto la sua versione in diverse interviste rilasciate successivamente: NBC, 8/20/02 (“And then the first tower collapsed”); in un suo intervento nel documentario Flight 93:A Reconstruction (“It was valuable information for him to have”), sempre nel 2002, ecc., a parte quella all’ABC che abbiamo già visto.
L’Fbi stava registrando la sua telefonata.
Ten minutes into the 30-minute call with her husband, Lyzbeth Glick asked her father to call the FBI on a separate line, Hurwitt said. FBI agents monitored the last 20 minutes of the call and are studying a tape and transcript. («The Washington Post», 13 settembre 2001)
